Shiner Beers Bring Home Three Medals From Australian International Beer Awards
SHINER, TEXAS (May 30, 2013) – The Spoetzl Brewery, brewers of the legendary Shiner family of beers, continued a run of international medal winning with three medals at this month’s Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA).
Three of Shiner’s beers were awarded bronze medals: Shiner Holiday Cheer in the Herb & Spiced category, Shiner Bohemian Black Lager in the German-style Schwarzbier group and Shiner Light Blonde in the Low Carbohydrate Lager division.
AIBA is one the largest and most prestigious international beer competitions, known for its rigorous judging. Forty-seven multi-national judges evaluated a record 1,490 beers from 277 breweries in 35 countries.
Shiner is a repeat winner at AIBA, winning multiple medals in both 2011 and 2012. The latest recognition from Australia adds to an impressive year for Shiner beers, which have also been recognized in the last 12 months at other prestigious international competitions, including the World Beer Cup, the European Beer Star Awards and the Great American Beer Festival.
“It wasn’t so long ago that Shiner wasn’t that well known outside of our home state of Texas,” said Spoetzl brewmaster Jimmy Mauric. “So to now have our beers recognized around the world is such a great honor.”
Founded in Shiner, Texas (population 2,069), the Spoetzl Brewery is one of America’s oldest independent breweries. While Spoetzl has grown to be the country’s fourth largest craft brewery, every drop of Shiner’s award-winning beer is still handcrafted and bottled right at the spot where it all started in 1909.
