Greetings

Dallas has few diversions other than eating, drinking and shopping.....and shopping does not interest us.
So we spend our time hopping from restaurant to restaurant and to every pub that we can find in search of the perfect meal and the perfect beer.

We randomly review restaurants and bars, dishes and beers at whim and give our brutally honest opinions of our findings. And while we concentrate on Dallas, we travel far and wide to sample cuisine from all regions of the country and beyond.

Beer Review - Brown Angel

Clown Shoes Beer Brown Angel Double Brown Ale - 7.2% ABV

Why Clown Shoes Beer instead of Clown Shoes Brewery?  Because there is no Clown Shoes Brewery.  Some nameless bunch of looney guys thought up a beer name that they thought was funny (must be an inside joke) and decided to create a beer to go with the name.  They then got the Ipswich Brewery in Massachussets to cook up a batch and the funniest thing happened, it sold.  It sold a lot.  Why stop there?  Indeed.  They now produce, or rather the Mercury Brewing Company produces for them, 7 different beers.  7 good beers.

But we are not here to talk about the 6 other beers, we are here to praise the Double Brown.  They speak of the 3 layers of flavor with the first and most powerful being the chocolate and coffee flavor from the 1500 pound of Brown Otter Malt used in each batch.  BAM.  The second layer comes from the Columbus and Amarillo hops which provide a facefull of hoppy kick.  SMASH.  The 3rd layer is a hidden, delicate floral note from the East Kent Golding hop.  TICKLE (I'll be you though I was going to say WHAM, eh?).

This is a really, really good winter ale considering the backwards way in which the beer was conceived and produced.  Hey, it works for me.
